Riders

Diverse Group
Halleck Creek riders represent each gender group fairly equally and range in age from 2-62 years old. Our riders come from many different backgrounds and socioeconomic conditions, and represent nearly every ethnic group in the Bay Area. Some riders come with their parents or families, while others come with their group homes or recreational programs.

They travel to our ranch in Nicasio from seven Bay Area counties to attend our program: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Solano, and Sonoma.

Types of Disabilities
The riders have a wide variety of disabling conditions including: down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, multiple sclerosis, vision impairments, emotional disturbances, growth disorders, and many other types of disabilities and syndromes.

Riders' Families
A day at our ranch is a healthy form of exercise and recreation that families can enjoy together. Families bring picnic lunches to eat before or after the ride, visit the other animals on the ranch, and volunteer or participate .

Enjoy a Day at the Ranch
Parents relax and support each other while their children are out on the trail ride. In the words of one parent, "My son loves coming to the ranch to ride the horses. I love coming here because here my son is not 'different'. There are not many places we can go where we fit in."

Supportive Environment
Our members feel that they belong to a very special "family", and look to our ranch as another place to call home.
