We need your bottles and cans!

Down East ingenuity means horse shelters and scholarship funding for Halleck Creek Ranch thanks to board member Nancy Brookshire and her sister Jane McKechnie. They hail from Maine and thanks to their thrifty New England ways, the ranch has been able to replace nearly all of the old horse sheds, along with installing new shelters for the goats and pigs, purchase of stall mats, bedding, paint and who knows what else.

How do they do it? Each year Nancy and Jane kick off a recycling drive to benefit Halleck Creek Ranch. Targeting Marin neighbors, stables, ranch volunteers, rider parents and local businesses, they collect (with the help of many volunteers) literally tons of plastic, glass and aluminum.

Bottles and cans with California Redemption Value (CRV) are collected and sorted at the ranch, then either Nancy or Jane will fill their cars to the brim and head off to the recycling center. In 2011 they raised just under $6,000. In 2012 they want to hit the $10,000 mark.
