Last year dozens of HCR riders, their families, friends and volunteers helped raise $20,000 by participating in the Marin Human Race.

Down East ingenuity means horse shelters and scholarship funding for Halleck Creek Ranch thanks to board member Nancy Brookshire and her sister Jane McKechnie. They hail from Maine and thanks to their thrifty New England ways, the ranch has been able to replace nearly all of the old horse sheds, along with installing new shelters for the goats and pigs, purchase of stall mats, bedding, paint and who knows what else.

Thank you to everyone who doubled their gift giving impact and responded to our year-end challenge grant. Our board and a generous anonymous donor offered to match gifts dollar-for-dollar in hopes of raising $30,000 by December 31st. You did and then some. The numbers are in and $47,000 was donated by more than 122 people.

2011 has been a difficult year for us. Key funders have reduced their support, our hay bill is more than a third higher than last year and our barn is in danger of collapse.
